Could … not should

Have you ever found yourself in a meeting where someone is presenting the proposed scope and direction for a change, or dare we say it, a transformation project?

How often do you hear about what the project SHOULD do? What we SHOULD be including our business case. What the outcomes of the project SHOULD be. How we SHOULD approach the change / transformation.

All of these are valid things to consider but what if we introduced a new transformaginative dimension to our thinking? What would happen if we focus on what we COULD achieve. We COULD totally transform the way we do business. We COULD introduce new services. We COULD change  behaviours and attitudes.

SHOULD implies adherence to rules, expectations, behaviours or directives. COULD implies creativity, transformation and … one of our favourite words … imagination.

SHOULD means keeping one eye on the past and making decisions accordingly. COULD means doing things in a totally new and imaginative way.

As we have said elsewhere, Transformagination is not for everyone nor for every business. That said, dismissing it out of hand because of what you SHOULD do is ignoring the extraordinary things you COULD do with some effort and imagination.
